Word is that lefty reliever Scott Eyre has announced his retirement. He came over to the Phillies from the Cubs in August 2008 and was a key part of the bullpen in both runs to the World Series. So our last image of him shall be in tears at the end of the 2009 World Series, saying that if he did not retire, he would pitch one more year for the Phillies but nowhere else. He seemed like a loose, goofy kind of guy who came in, did his job, played through pain, and never complained.
Eyre fit right into the Phillies' bullpen and appeared to appreciate every moment he was there. His comments about Bud Selig after the suspended game of the 2008 World Series were unforgettable. He will definitely be missed and should get a warm welcome whenever he comes back to the ballpark for old-timers' weekends and such.
