placido polanco redux

According to Todd Zolecki of mlb.com, Placido Polanco is close to signing a three-year contract, worth $18 million, to play third base with the Phillies. Now 34, Polanco has not played third for more than three years. Still, I like the signing, which hinges on Polanco's passing a physical. PP was a great guy to have in the line-up, and played well at second, when he was last with the Phillies. His addition should shake up the line-up.

The phone rang about 20 minutes ago. When I picked it up, there was Ruben Amaro, Jr. OK, it was a recording, but it was Ruben's personable tones, thanking me for my support, pledging to bring another World Series to town, and wishing me a happy holiday. "Making a list, checking it twice..."

In other news from the baseball front, the Morning Call announced this morning that only 750 or so tickets are left for the 2010 Triple-A All-Star game, which will be held in July at Coca-Cola Park. Sales of season ticket packages for the IronPigs are also up from last year.
